Large Hardened Thin-Wall Girth Gear Manufacturing | Up to 15m Diameter · Controlled Carburizing Def
Girth gears are core transmission components for large rotary equipment such as ball mills, rotary kilns, and dryers. Sankuang Machinery provides girth gear manufacturing services with diameters up to 15 meters and modules up to 45, specializing in hardened thin-wall gears with large OD, thin wall, small module, large helix angle, and high dimensional accuracy.
Key Technical Challenges & Solutions:
Deformation and expansion of large girth gears after carburizing and quenching differ significantly from conventional gears. Solutions:
Pre-heat treatment of blanks: Additional preparatory heat treatment to stabilize microstructure and reduce deformation
Custom gear hobs: Controlled tooth surface allowance and root relief
Custom quenching fixtures: Specially designed tooling to control carburizing deformation
Multi-setup machining: Process planning based on deformation patterns with pre-stressed machining
Minimum finish allowance: Ensuring minimal machining deformation
Materials & Configurations:
Materials: Cast steel (ZG42CrMo, ZG40CrNiMo), forged alloy steel (42CrMo, 40CrNiMoA), ductile iron
Blank requires normalizing + tempering, hardness approx. 175HB
Configurations: Integrated, half-to-half, four-segment, multi-segment designs
Inspection Items: Chemical composition analysis, mechanical property testing, heat treatment curves, UT/MT, tooth surface hardness (3 points per 90°).
